How To Enroll
Tule Elk Park CDC is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 AM to 6:00 PM throughout the year except for holidays. Providing services to low-income families is a priority at the site. The majority of families enrolled qualify for subsidized services on the basis of their income. A family is deemed eligible for subsidized services if:
- a valid child protective service referral is received;
- a referral is received from an emergency shelter, legal, medical or social service agency certifying that the family is homeless;
- a family receives public assistance; and
- the total countable income and adjusted family size is equal to or less that 75% of the state’s median income.
The Center also provides services for middle and upper-income families. Approximately 25 – 30% of our families qualify for our tuition-based program. Presently, we have three-fourths time and full-time enrollment slots. Effective July 1, 2004, only full-time tuition-based slots will be available. Three-fourths time slots range from 4 hours to under 6.5 hours at a rate of $24.00 a day. Full-time children can be enrolled from 6.5 hours to under 10 hours at a rate of $32.00 a day. School-age children attending our after-school program from 2 hours to under 4 hours pay $17.00 a day rate (when school-age children are at the site for a full day they are required to pay the full-time rate of $32.00 per day). Siblings are given a 25% discount—the child with the greater number of hours, or higher rate, pay the full fee. Parents/guardians are required to pay the full fee regardless of vacation, illness and/or other absences. In the event that we are fully enrolled, families can be put on a “first come first served” waiting list once the child has turned two and a half and your application has been submitted to our office.
Applications for enrollment can be picked up at the SFUSD Child Development Program, 20 Cook Street, or at Tule Elk Park CDC, 2110 Greenwich Street. Standard enrollment procedures are described below. Families who qualify for the tuition-based program should pick up an application and apply directly with us at the Center. Site tours are typically provided by the Site Manager during the spring and fall of each year. Tours can be scheduled by calling the office.
Standard Enrollment Procedures
As published by the San Francisco Unified School District Child Development Program.
To be eligible for service, the parents or guardians must be employed, in training or in school, seeking employment or incapacitated. Your child must be at least two years, nine months, and toilet trained to apply. Admission will not be denied to a child with a disability solely because he/she has not met the toilet training requirement. We begin enrolling children at three years of age.
Since we are governed by state laws, we are required to ask you to complete an application form that will give us information about your family, your work, and your income. The questions on the application form for the most part, explain themselves, and the information will be held confidential. You are reminded that admission is based on family income with the lowest per capita admitted first.
In answer to Section II, please look at the list of Centers and identify those Centers that you would like your child to attend. When you are offered a place at a Center you have chosen, you will be expected to accept the offer. If you refuse, your name will be removed from the eligibility list.
When you return the application form, please supply the following documents:
- Proof of Income for the past two months, i.e., copy of wage stubs or AFDC letter.
- Child’s Health Form (Preschool Only)
Please return the completed application to:
Child Development Program
20 Cook Street, Room 4
San Francisco, CA 94118
When all documents are received, you will be placed on the eligibility list.
If you have any questions about the application process, please call the Child Development Program, Enrollment Office, at 415-750-8507 between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
